Prerequisites for Training and CGSB Certification

1. IF YOU REGISTERED AND PAID FOR AN ONTARIO COURSE YOURSELF - You will be registering under the PCC Act and be required to meet the following:
   
   • be a minimum of 18 years of age or older, AND
   • have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent;
     OR
   
   • successfully complete the online math exam.
   Evidence of either of these will be required before taking the course. Failure to do so will remove you from the class with cancellation fees being applied.
   
   The above does not apply to PT and MT night school programs as they do not require approval under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005 (under $1000)



2. MATH PREREQUISITE - For the subjects of Radiography, Ultrasonics, Eddy Current and CEDO, the Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has implemented a math prerequisite that will effect all students registering for these courses. All students are required to complete a 15 question math examination (1 hour time limit) prior to being approved to attend these courses, however, pre-course registration with CINDE allows you to register and take the exam at no cost. In the event of a failure, a membership fee will be due.

   The link to sign up for online exams can be found at http://www.cinde.ca/courses/exam.shtml Please note that you must register for this exam during office hours to obtain permission but can attempt the exam at your leisure, within the time allotted at the time of your course registration.
   
   CINDE offers this exam online free of charge to:
   
   • students registered for future CINDE training course(s)
   • CINDE members (you can register online at http://www.cinde.ca/apply.shtml )
   
   This is a one time exam which candidates must receive a minimum of 10 correct answers out of 15 questions for a passing grade. This exam can also be completed at any NRCan Approved Training Organization or can be challenged online as detailed above. If you have already passed this exam, please disregard this informaton.



3. LEVEL 2 AND 3 COURSES - We require proof of:
   
   • Successful completion of the relevant Level 1 or Level 2 prerequisite training course within the past 10 years;
     OR
   
   • Valid CGSB certification in the relevant Level 1 or Level 2 method.
   Please provide proof of meeting this requirement by mailing/faxing or bringing in a copy of this necessary documentation/certificate(s). Course results will be held until proof of this course or valid certification is received for the relevant Level 1 or 2 method.



4. RADIOGRAPHY LEVEL 2 GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS - If you are currently a Nuclear Energy Worker, you must submit a copy of your current energy worker consent form along with your Social Insurance Number. This information should be faxed to us at 905-574-6080 or emailed to (in PDF format) at the time of registration. Course results will be held until this information has been provided. Thank you in advance for complying with this new government regulation.



5. PHASED ARRAY - Basic course requires CGSB Level 2 certification.



6. LEVEL 3 PREPARATION COURSES - Students preparing for their first Level 3 certification must complete Modules 1 - 3. Students will then select only the specific Module (4 - 8) which coincides with the method they are seeking certification in. For subsequent Level 3 training, students will only be required to select the Module that is specific to their method.
   
   This course format has been selected and meets the training syllabus requirements of CAN/CGSB 48.9712 and ISO 9712.

1. EMC REQUIREMENT - When applying for CGSB certification, it is mandatory for all candidates to have successfully completed an Engineering, Materials and Components (EMC) / Materials and Processes course, OR to provide evidence of meeting this requirement by successfully completing an equivalency exam.

   This is a one time exam which candidates must receive 70% minimum to pass. All candidates who currently hold two (2) or more CGSB certifications are exempt from this requirement.

2. VISION REQUIREMENT - When applying for CGSB certification, applicants are required to meet the Canadian Standard for Certification CAN/CGSB 48.9712 Vision Requirements (click here).
