Delivered in Alberta by CWB, CINDE and Holloway NDT & Engineering Inc. through Alberta Industry Skills Grant
Through the Government of Alberta's Industry Skills Grant, eligible participants may receive 100% of their course fees covered. The program will support up to 120 participants. To attract more individuals to this exciting career, the program is open to ALL residents of Alberta with a CGSB UT2 license including the unemployed, existing employees looking to advance their career, women, indigenous peoples, youth and other underrepresented groups. Seats under the grant are limited.
The CWB Group, the Canadian Institute for Non-destructive Evaluation (CINDE), and Holloway NDT & Engineering Inc. have partnered to deliver a comprehensive Ultrasonic Testing Phased Array (UT-PA) training course in Alberta.
This program has been funded by the Government of Alberta's Industry Skills Grant and will be delivered to up to 120 eligible participants, with 100% of course fees covered through the Grant. Seats under the grant are limited.
Eligibility Criteria Includes:
- Current resident of Alberta
- CGSB Ultrasonics Level 2 certification
- Application must be fully completed and personal information in CINDE account must be up-to-date or your application will be void
Course Overview
This CGSB certification course provides comprehensive instruction in UT-PA and will be delivered through a blended learning format:
- Online Theory (Week 1): Structured e-learning modules covering phased array fundamentals and standards-based requirements, completed at the participant's own pace.
- In-Person Practical (Week 2): Conducted at the CWB Nisku, Alberta facility, focusing on scanning techniques, flaw detection, and data interpretation. Practical sessions are scheduled bi-monthly starting February 23, 2026 and participants must complete the in-class component within 60 days of successfully finishing the online portion.

- Fundamentals of phased array physics, probes, and instrumentation
- Digitization and data presentation formats
- Focal law principles, beam steering, and focusing
- Encoded scanning methods for weld and corrosion inspection
- Data analysis and interpretation
Equipment Requirement
Training content is presented using the Evident Omniscan X3 platform. A limited number of Omniscan X3 units are available. Participants can provide their own flaw detector. Participants wishing to train on a different make or model must contact the training centre in advance.
Certification and Standards
This course satisfies the training syllabus requirements of:
- CAN/CGSB-48.9712
- ISO 9712
- SNT-TC-1A
Graduates will be prepared to challenge certification exams under CAN/CGSB-48.9712, a nationally recognized standard that supports career advancement across oil and gas, construction, aerospace, and manufacturing sectors.
